Day 01
AIRPORT - COLOMBO

Day 02
COLOMBO - KANDY

Breakfast.

Visit the "Colombo Tea Auctions" held on two days of the week at the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce. Sri Lanka has the distinction of conducting the largest tea auction in the world, which has been in operation since 1883. 700 factories and 450 registered buyers trade at this auction.

Spend some time at the auction and leave for Kandy.

Visit the Giragama Tea Factory and the Hantana Tea Museum.

Giragama Tea Factory - Located in close proximity to the city of Kandy was established in the year 1903 and manufactures Low Grown and Long Leaf tea.

"The Tea Museum" in Hathana is one of its kind in the world and a project of the ex-planters and the Sri Lanka Tea Board. Located in the vicinity of Loolcondera Estate where tea was first grown the atmosphere of a tea factory is preserved in this museum. Some of it’s main exhibits are: A hand operated Tea Roller, a Hot Bulb Engine, the first Tea Dryer ever made (1880), the oldest known pack of Ceylon Tea (56 years) still in its original packing, and a photograph of the largest tea bush in the world. All of which are over a century old.

Day 03
KANDY - NUWARA ELIYA

Begin your journey to Nuwara Eliya. Visit the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens, a spectacle of ornamental plants, an orchid house, a great lawn and a variety of tropical trees and creepers. The New Straits Times Publication has recently highligted these gardens as “ one of the best kept secrets of Kandy”

Visit the “ LaBookelle Tea Estate" which is over 100 years old and situated in the Nuwara Eliya District. At an elevation of 1,585 metres above sea level covering an extent of 543 hectares it produces approximately 6,000 kilograms of tea annually. Enjoy your factory fresh cup of truly "Ceylon Tea".

Dinner and overnight stay. We recommend that you stay at the Tea Factory which is actually a tea factory, now converted into a five star hotel.

Day 04
NUWARA ELIYA - TALAWAKELLE - NUWARA ELIYA

Breakfast.

Leave for Nanu-oya railway station. Enjoy the short train journey to Talawakelle by the "Udarata Menike" (Up-country Lady). This exciting and rare journey through magnificent mountain scenery, breathtaking wide blankets of tea bushes and water falls is an experience not to be missed. The tour vehicle will be waiting at the station to drive you to Sri Lanka Tea Research Institute (SLTRI) .

SLTRI was established in 1925 and located in the St. Coombs Tea Estate. This is a well equipped research laboratory with a technical staff strength of 134. Its main functions are to encourage, foster and facilitate research, and investigate problems that affect the tea industry. A museum and a scientific library of more than 20,000 volumes are maintained.

Day 05
NUWARA ELIYA - RATNAPURA - MOUNT LAVINIA

Breakfast.

Leave for Mount Lavinia via Ratnapura en-route visiting the Balangoda Tea Factory in the Ratnapura district. At 1,100 metres above sea level it covers an area of 632 hectares and known to be one of the largest estates producing low grown tea.

City tour of Ratnapura - "City of Gems". Throughout history, Sri Lanka has been known as the land of gems. You will visit a Gem Mine and a Gemological Museum. The gem pits or mines are excavated in the middle of paddy fields and other lands just off the road. Miners may be approached without hesitation to watch them work. The museum is interesting for its metallurgical displays of precious stones.

The Mount Lavinia Hotel was a colonial mansion with a rich history as a country home in 1805.
Now a leading four star property has gained popularity among foreigners who who have laid for long hours on the beach and enjoyed the sun.

Day 06
MOUNT LAVINIA - Time for relaxation.

Enjoy last minute shopping in Colombo including brief visits to the MLESNA and DILMAH TEA outlets. You may purchase from the greatest array of gourmet and gift teas and of course, illustrated books on tea. Mlesna has created history by packing the best Ceylon tea, in the world's most innovative forms of gifts wrappings, thereby winning several prestigious awards. This center is located within the Colombo City limits.

Dilmah Tea Center -- Dilmah production complex located at Peliyagoda, a northern suburb of Colombo, has a workforce of more than 1,000, of which nearly 500 young men and women work in its flavored-tea unit. It has the world's largest tea-bagging facility in a single location, where a state-of-art Italian plant zips out 2,000 tea bags a minute, and the modern tea-cleaning facility, the largest in Asia. For its product, Dilmah uses produce from 20,000 hectares of prime tea plantations. The tantalizing flavored range on offer includes all popular fruit and spice flavors.
