Day 02
ANURADHAPURA - SIGIRIYA - GIRITALE
AM
Visit the ruins of the ancient city of Anuradhapura.
Anuradhapura was the first ancient capital of the country of kings for about 1400 years. In the pinnacle of its glory the city extended over a surface of 52 sq. km and the population amounted to several tens of thousands. It’s magnificent monuments, refined sculptures and paintings are testimony to a veritable and original Sri Lankan culture.
Proceed to Giritale after climbing the Sigiriya Rock Fortress.
Sigiriya, a massive rock in the green scrub jungle, is perhaps the most memorable place for visitors to Sri Lanka. The site was known from ancient times as a hermitage for Buddhist monks. A well planned monastic complex includes caved temples, bathing pools, lovely ponds and Asia's oldest surviving landscaped gardens. Today Sigiriya is famous for its frescos painted in the pocket of the rock. The "Lion stairway", the "Mirror Wall" and the "Water Gardens" are the other highlights of Sigiriya.
Arrive at your hotel and check-in. A refresher towel and a welcome drink awaits you.

Day 03
GIRITALE - POLONNARUWA - MEDIRIGIRIYA - GIRITALE
AM
Leave for Polonnaruwa and visit the ruins of this ancient capital.
Polonnaruwa was the mediaeval capital of Sri Lanka, and today it is one of the most beautiful centers of our cultural heritage. With its comparatively brief history and a dozen rulers, it is a far more completely preserved ruin city than Anuradhapura. Visit the ancient ruins and the Gal Vihara complex, where three large Buddha statues are carved out of a single rock.
PM
Visit Medirigiriya
This site which contains the remains of an elegant Vatadage among it’s other ruins, is twelve miles north east of Hingurakgoda. The roof of the Vatadage was reared on three concentric circles of pillars. Between the circles of pillars were brick and stone walls similar to the Buddhist railing at Sanchi. It is recorded that one stage of the Vatadage was constructed by a Malaya Raja in the day of Agrabodhi IV (A.D. 651 - 666)
Return to the hotel.
Dinner and overnight stay in Giritale.
